Indian Government’s Major Move: Launching YouTube Rival Video Portal to Compete in Digital Space

The government is placing significant emphasis on the development of online portals. Continuously, new websites and portals are being introduced by various ministries. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is the latest to join in, announcing the launch of four online portals this week. These platforms will serve as channels for disseminating videos and information from the government.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader efforts to address cybercrime and enhance information sharing. It also resonates with the Digital India campaign spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministry’s initiative aims to provide clarity on public policies through these portals, which will function akin to online newspapers. Users will be able to access videos on these portals, similar to platforms like YouTube.

Essentially, these portals will serve as a central hub for government advertisements and information. Details about the launch have been disclosed, and the official announcement is eagerly awaited and expected to be made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur.

The National Video Gateway of India will host a variety of videos, primarily those created by the government, emphasizing its role as a major government platform. Presently, it features approximately 2,500 videos aimed at informing the public about various government initiatives and information.
