Musk Introduces New Fee for Creating X Accounts: Users Now Need to Pay to Sign Up!

After Elon Musk took over Twitter, significant changes have been observed on the platform. Musk renamed it to X. Musk has now announced that X will soon start charging new users for liking, posting, replying, and bookmarking tweets. Previously, X was free for all users. Musk made this decision to address issues caused by bots.

Regarding tools like CAPTCHA, Musk mentioned that current AI and troll forms can easily pass the “Are you a bot?” check. However, new accounts will be exempt from fees for posting after three months of creation.

As with many social platform announcements, no details have been provided about when this policy will be implemented or the exact fees new users might incur.

Additionally, X Corp recently banned a record 212,627 accounts in India between February 26 and March 25. These bans were primarily due to promoting child sexual abuse and non-consensual nudity. Moreover, 1,235 accounts were removed for promoting terrorism in the country. Overall, X banned 213,862 accounts during this period.

In compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021, X reported receiving 5,158 complaints from users in India during the same timeframe through its grievance redressal mechanism.
